As part of its ongoing commitment to improving hygiene standards and promoting dignity among adolescents, the Rural Water Access Foundation (RUWAF) conducted a targeted Hygiene Promotion Campaign at Government Day Secondary School, Galadanci in Dutse, Jigawa State. The outreach focused on educating students—especially adolescent girls—on key hygiene topics including:
- Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM)
- Proper Handwashing Techniques
- Personal Hygiene Practices
- WASH-related Health Awareness
RUWAF’s facilitators engaged students through practical demonstrations, interactive sessions, and discussions that broke down cultural taboos and misinformation around menstruation and hygiene. The campaign also emphasized the importance of clean water access and safe sanitation in sustaining healthy behaviors.
RUWAF’s Executive Director, Paul Hassan Mshelbara, highlighted the critical role of school-based hygiene interventions in fostering long-term community health outcomes. “When young people—especially girls—are equipped with hygiene knowledge and confidence, they grow into empowered adults who uplift their families and communities,” he said.
The school management expressed gratitude for RUWAF’s timely intervention and called for sustained partnerships to scale such initiatives to more schools across Jigawa State.
This campaign aligns with RUWAF’s broader strategic focus on promoting WASH education, preventing water-borne diseases, and ensuring every child has the right to health, dignity, and education—regardless of their background.
